1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Propagio processes, why it is processed, how long it is kept, and what rights you may have.
Propagio is a product for discovering nearby people who share fermentation starters. The service is designed to avoid exposing exact home or street-level coordinates in public profiles.
For privacy questions or rights requests, contact [email protected].
2. Data we process
Depending on how you use Propagio, we may process:
- account and profile data, including email address, display name, avatar, bio, website, preferred language, availability status, and account timestamps;
- starter data, including the cultures you list and the notes you add;
- contact channel data, including channels you mark as public and channels you mark as
on_request; - approximate location data, including a public location label, a public A5 cell, and the ancestry cells used for search matching;
- contact request data, including messages, status, timestamps, and the identities of the requester and sharer;
- push notification data, including Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens where notifications are enabled; and
- security and session data needed to authenticate requests and keep the service operating.
3. Where the data comes from
Most data comes directly from you when you sign in, edit your profile, select a location, configure contact channels, send a request, or enable notifications.
Some account identity fields, such as your email address, display name, or avatar, may come from Kinde as your authentication provider.
4. How location works
Propagio does not publish exact coordinates on public profiles.
The web app currently converts your chosen point into a public A5 cell at resolution 11 and stores that cell identifier as the public location reference. Because A5 is an equal-area hierarchical grid and Propagio uses resolution 11 for public profile locations, each public cell covers roughly 8.1 km2 on average. That is approximately equivalent to a circle with a radius of about 1.6 km or about 3.2 km across. This is an estimate rather than a guaranteed distance in every direction.
Propagio also stores a human-readable location label derived from a rounded map choice. Public discovery is intended to work at neighborhood scale rather than exact-address scale.
For search, the app also stores a set of ancestor A5 cells from resolutions 7 through 11 so that nearby matching can work without storing or exposing exact coordinates.
In addition, map markers shown in the product may be displayed using a deterministic offset within the public cell so the visual marker does not act like a precise address pin.
5. Why we process personal data
We process personal data to:
- create and maintain your account;
- let you create a profile and publish the cultures you share;
- match users by approximate area and starter type;
- show public profile information to other users;
- handle contact requests and reveal
on_requestcontact channels only after approval; - send optional push notifications when request events happen;
- maintain security, prevent abuse, debug incidents, and operate the service; and
- comply with legal obligations where applicable.
6. Legal bases
If GDPR or similar rules apply to your use of Propagio, our main legal bases are:
- performance of a contract, where processing is needed to provide the service you asked for;
- consent, where you enable optional features such as push notifications;
- legitimate interests, where processing is needed to secure, maintain, improve, and defend the service, or prevent abuse; and
- compliance with legal obligations, where applicable.
7. Who can see your data
Other users may see the parts of your profile that you choose to make public, including your display name, avatar, starter listings, approximate location label, availability status, and contact channels marked as public.
Contact channels marked as on_request are withheld until you approve a request.
Service providers acting on Propagio’s behalf may process limited personal data where needed to operate the service, including:
- Kinde for authentication;
- Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications, if enabled; and
- infrastructure and hosting providers used to run the app and API.
We do not describe Propagio as selling personal data.
8. Retention
We keep personal data for as long as needed to operate the service and maintain the account, unless a longer period is required for legal, security, or dispute-related reasons.
If you delete your account, Propagio deletes the account record and associated profile data used to operate the service. Contact request history is anonymized as part of the account deletion flow rather than kept under your active identity.
Push tokens may also be removed when they are replaced, disabled, or no longer valid.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- access your personal data;
- correct inaccurate data;
- erase data;
- restrict certain processing;
- object to certain processing;
- receive data in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent where processing depends on consent.
If you are in the EU or EEA, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. International transfers
Some service providers used by Propagio may process personal data outside your home jurisdiction. Where that happens, the applicable provider terms and transfer mechanisms will govern those transfers.
11. Security
Propagio uses reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal data, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for the information you choose to publish in your profile or reveal to another user.
12. Children
Propagio is not designed for children. Do not use the service if doing so is prohibited by applicable law in your jurisdiction.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we may publish a new legal version and request renewed acceptance where needed.
